Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This policy explains what data the Vocaru iPhone app and this website collect, what we use it for and what you can do about it. Vocaru is responsible for your data. For any question, email hola@vocaru.app.

Summary

  • We use your data to deliver the course, save your progress and improve the app.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across other companies' apps.
  • We don't keep recordings of your voice.
  • You can delete your account and all your learning data in the app, under Perfil > Eliminar cuenta.

Data we collect

Account

You can sign in with Apple, with Google, with email and password, or as a guest. Depending on the method we store your email, your name (if you give it or Apple or Google shares it), your Google profile photo, a user ID, your time zone and your language. A guest account is anonymous and has no email; you can link it to Apple or Google later.

Your learning

To personalize and save the course we record:

  • Your onboarding answers: your goal (work, travel, conversation…), what you find hardest, your estimated level, how long you want to practice each day and your placement answers.
  • Your progress: lessons, words and flashcards, reviews, readings, exercise and game answers, videos watched, practice days and streak.
  • An in-app activity log (for example, which lesson you started and when), with a device identifier.

Voice

In speaking exercises, the microphone is only on when you ask for it. Speech recognition is done by Apple's dictation service (on your iPhone or on Apple's servers, depending on your device and settings). Vocaru only receives the recognized text and the result of the exercise, and doesn't keep the recording.

If you use voice practice with the coach, the audio of your answer is sent to our server to turn it into text and reply. We keep the transcript and the evaluation of each attempt for your progress, but not the audio.

Text you translate

If you share text with Vocaru from another app to translate it or save it as a flashcard, that text is sent to our server and to the AI provider that translates it.

Purchases

Purchases are processed by Apple. We never see your card or payment details. We receive from Apple what you bought, when, and whether the purchase is active.

App usage

We measure how the app is used (for example, which screens open, where a lesson is left, or whether a payment completes) to find bugs and improve the course. These events are linked to your user ID, not your email.

On your iPhone

Some preferences stay only on your device: your reminder time, sounds and the videos you download. Reminders are local notifications scheduled by your iPhone; we don't use remote push notifications.

This website

vocaru.app uses no advertising cookies. While the app isn't on the App Store, you can leave your email so we tell you when it launches: we store the email, the page language and which link or campaign brought you, use it only for that notice, and delete it if you ask at hola@vocaru.app. If you subscribe to "every new scene" on a video's practice page, we store your email, the language you picked and the page you subscribed from, to email you when we publish a new scene; unsubscribe any time by emailing hola@vocaru.app or from the link in each email. The blog stores in your browser which flashcards you marked as learned, and that never leaves your device. Pages with a video include the YouTube player, which loads as you scroll near it; Google's privacy policy applies to that player. To understand how the site is used we use Microsoft Clarity, which records clicks, scrolling and navigation between pages and sets measurement cookies in your browser; it doesn't record what you type in forms. Microsoft's privacy statement applies to that service.

Who we share your data with

Only with providers we need to run the app. They process data on our behalf and only for that purpose:

We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or to a buyer if Vocaru changes hands; we would tell you first.

Where it's stored

Our database is in the United States, and several of the providers above also process data there. If you live elsewhere, your data is transferred to the United States under the contractual safeguards those providers offer.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and learning data: for as long as you have the account.
  • When you delete the account we erase your user and all your learning data from our database. Backups are overwritten on their normal cycle.
  • Purchase records the law requires us to keep are kept for that period. Apple keeps its own purchase records.
  • Usage events are kept for a limited time and only with your user ID.

How to delete your account

In the app: Perfil > Eliminar cuenta (the app's menus are in Spanish). Deletion is immediate and can't be undone. If you can't open the app, email hola@vocaru.app from your account's email address. Deleting the account doesn't refund a purchase: Apple handles refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, object to or restrict a use, and get a copy. Depending on where you live, the law grants these rights under different names (for example, GDPR rights in Europe or CCPA rights in California). Email hola@vocaru.app and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Vocaru is designed for adults. It isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child gave us data, email hola@vocaru.app and we'll delete it.

Security

Your session is stored securely on your iPhone, connections are encrypted and database access is restricted. No system is perfect: if we find a breach that affects your data, we'll notify you as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change something important, we'll say so in the app or on this site before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the last update.
